BEGINNING MUSICIANS TO FILL THESE EMPTY CHAIRS

brochure

Fill your life with music, new friends, fun and accomplishment in the Peterborough New Horizons Band organization. It is open to anyone who wants to start playing a musical instrument and is available for morning rehearsals. It offers a chance to learn to play trumpet, trombone, french horn, baritone horn, tuba, saxophone, clarinet, percussion, flute, oboe and bassoon - in other words, just about any wind or percussion instrument.

If you have never played before and have no musical experience, we will start you from scratch in the Green Band. If you have played an instrument before and you would like to refresh your skills, you can join the Green Band or one of the current bands depending on your level of comfort and skill.

Each year, a new Green Band is started for newcomers.

The New Horizons Band International organization involves more than 100 bands in Canada, United States, Australia and recently in Ireland, and is now in its 14th year of expansion, The aim is to provide entry level instructions to adults wishing to learn how to play wind, brass, percussion or string instruments. The Peterborough NHB commenced operation in the Spring of 2002 with 52 new members and has grown to today's complement of over 200 participants.

A new Green Band will start in September 2010 and practices Monday and Thursday mornings, 9:30 to 11:30 am until early December. On Monday mornings, the full Green band will practice with Peter Ford from 9:30 to 11:30am. On Thursdays, you will have coaching on your instrument for the first hour. After a brief coffee break, you will join together as a full band until 11:30 am. Beginning in January 2011, practices will be once a week, on Thursday mornings with sectionals every other week and will run through until June or until this group is ready to join the first level band.

If you wish to join one of the other bands, practices are on Wednesday mornings for Pine and Oak bands from 9:00 am to noon with sectionals about every other week. Birch and Wind Ensemble rehearse in the afternoon from 1- 4 p.m. If you are unsure about your level of ability, please discuss with Peter Ford. All practices start and end on time and the church is open at 8:30 am. Fees are based on $10 per session

An information day for new members will be held on Wednesday morning, June 9, 2010 at 9 a.m. at Living Hope Christian Reform Church on Lansdowne St. E. For registration forms please contact Harlene Annett at 745-0077 or hannett@sympatico.ca.
