Cuba 2016

holiday

On February 25, 2016, 54 playing members of the Peterborough New Horizons Bands headed to the airport for a trip to Varadero, Cuba.

During the weeklong trip, our band performed two, one-hour concerts for the crowds at the Breezes

Varadero resort. We were well received by the vacationing public and the staff alike. On both occasions we played an encore number, which we had held in reserve.

A companion group of 53 relatives and friends came along for a total of 107 travelers. Band members and friends went on various excursions to nearby cities and attractions in the area, including a trip to Havana and the Tropicana Night Club, A highlight of another day excursion was a trip to the Music School in Cardenas, where a string band of 17 to 19 year-olds put on a concert for us. They were just terrific!

With us now back in Canada, the Sunshine Band has not yet disbanded, we have been asked to represent PNHB at the annual Band Exchange with Lakeshore NHB to be held here in Peterborough on Sunday, May 29.

Thank you organizers and conductor. Sunshine Band Organizers: Earle Henderson, Marg Glenn, Ann Dunford and Ruth Mathews
